We are all Enea – Workshops & Performance

During the Magic Carpets residency, artist Filippo Riniolo and Julia Jenewein decided to study Greek and Roman myths to invent a new story of the founding of Rome together. Aeneas, as a refugee and the "first migrant", accompanied us throughout the 4-step journey, creating workshops for kids of the neighborhoods Labaro, Laurentino, Corviale and Tufello to finally arrive at the place of our mythological and contemporary founding: Trullo. 

Together we discovered many mythological characters, gods and goddesses, reconstructing their characters and being guided by their teachings. We engraved the faces of: Venus and Mars, Pluto and Proserpine, Medusa and Mercury and finally Jupiter and Juno out of copper. After we played together to give them new life through movements, voice and gestures. We learned with imagination and fun to put ourselves in each other's shoes.
The final interactive performance led us through the 4 stages of our journey, to an unprecedented collective representation of Aeneas and Rome:
